Can I Now Travel To New Zealand?

Yes, the country was reopened Monday, May 2 2022, by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who welcomed the first international visitors in more than two years.

During the pandemic, New Zealand had some of the most stringent border regulations in the world. From May 2022 to late 2021, New Zealand citizens and permanent residents were the only ones allowed to enter. However, visitors from the UK, as well as those from 59 other countries on the visa waiver, are now permitted to travel to New Zealand.

When Will New Zealand Allow Tourists To Enter Its Country?

No need for travellers to prove negative tests to cross New Zealand’s frontiers as of June 20, regardless of their origin.

Except for medical exemptions that can be documented at least 72 hours in advance of travel, travellers will still need proof they have been fully immunised to enter New Zealand.

Travellers entering New Zealand by air must still complete a Traveller Declaration. To be issued a New Zealand Traveller Pass, they must show it at New Zealand customs.

Before You Travel, Make Sure To Check Your Passport And Other Travel Documents.

UK Emergency Travel Documents

UK ETDs (ETDs) are valid for entry to New Zealand if they are accompanied by a visa for permanent residence, work, or study. ETDs can be used by holidaymakers, provided that New Zealand is not their final destination. ETDs can also be used for airside transit to and from New Zealand.

Biosecurity and quarantine

New Zealand has strict security regulations. Importing most foodstuffs, including meat and milk products, honey and fruit, is illegal. Those who break these rules face severe penalties. Wood products, footwear, wood products, camping equipment, and other items made from animal skin should be carefully imported. You can find all details on the immigration arrivals card. If you are unsure, please declare the items to the Ministry of Agriculture or place them in one of our bins at the airport. You could face a stiff fine of up to $100,000 and even imprisonment if you fail to follow these regulations.

Medication

Some restrictions apply to the import of medication into New Zealand. For more information, visit the New Zealand Customs website. You must declare any prescription medications you bring to New Zealand on your passenger arrival card.

All codeine-containing drugs are considered prescription-only medications (controlled drugs). Codeine can be found in many pain reliever medications. It is possible to import controlled drugs for personal purposes. However, you must declare them to the Customs Service upon arrival in New Zealand and show that they were lawfully provided for your treatment. These requirements are detailed on the New Zealand Customs Website.
